Fractal Explorer
Fractal
Explorer is fractal generating program created by Arthur Sirotinsky and
Olga Fedorenko in 1998. There is currently another fractal generator
available named Fractal Explorer, but it is very different from the program
created by Sirotinsky and Fedorenko. The original FE has not been
updated since 2005 and the last program version is 2.02. It's able to
create IFS and 3D-attractors as well as regular fractals, and also AVI
animations of fractals. Other possibilities for FE include quaternions
and fractal landscapes. A quaternion is defined as the quotient of two
directed lines in a three-dimensional space or equivalently as the
quotient of two vectors.
It's
lucky that it's not necessary to be Einstein in order to use Fractal
Explorer. The program is set up so that it's easy to create fractals
without needing to understand the complicated math behind them. There
are 118 fractal sets--each one is actually a formula, and the values in
the formula can be changed by the fractal artist. This change is how the
fractal shapes are created. There are different color algorithms and
color gradients that can be used and 111 filters to create special
effects. There's also the option to create your own formulae thanks to a
formula parser created by Kyle McCord.
It's
a very special experience to see the images shaped by your fingers
playing on the keyboard as they spring out on the monitor and grow into a
multitude of forms and how different colors can often give startlingly
different results. It can be quite addictive as well.
We
here in the garden are happy that you are taking a look at the fruits
of our labor. The flowers and trees as well. Thank you for sharing with
us the beauty we have found in Fractal Explorer.

Fractal Explorer needs a Fractal Landscape Generator (FE_OGL_L.DLL) in order to create landscapes. Not included in the original pack (a funny idea), apparently it was available at several disappeared websites. And yes, I'm searching for it.
